How to make, fill and store your purées
Most of our purées follow the same simple rhythm. Get the hang of it once and you can make almost anything.
-
Cook it soft
Peel, core and dice your fruit or veg, then steam until tender. Soft fruit like avocado and banana can skip this and go straight to the masher.
-
Blend or mash
Blend until smooth, adding a splash of water, or your baby's usual breast milk or formula, to get the consistency they like. Go smoother for first tastes and a little thicker as they grow.
-
Cool completely
Let everything cool before it goes into a pouch. Then fill with a spoon, a funnel or the Sinch Station for a mess-free fill.
-
Fridge or freeze
Pop a few in the fridge for the next couple of days and freeze the rest. Write the flavour and date on the pouch so you know what's what.
Each recipe lists its own storage time, and most say around 2 to 3 days in the fridge. Freeze anything you won't use in time, then thaw it overnight in the fridge.
Our silicone squeezy pouches are dishwasher safe. Our 150ml reusable pouches are hand wash only, so use warm soapy water and a cleaning brush, then dry well before the next fill.

Starting solids FAQs
Can't see your question? Send us a message and we'll get back to you.
We share recipes and pouch tips, not medical advice. For questions about your baby's diet, allergies or readiness for solids, have a chat with your GP or child health nurse.
What purée should I start my baby on?
There's no set order for introducing solid foods, and the first foods you offer will depend on your family and culture. It's strongly recommended that iron-rich foods are part of your baby's diet. Common first foods include mashed vegetables like pumpkin, potato, sweet potato and taro, and fruits like cooked pear or apple and ripe banana.
When can I give my baby yoghurt?
Babies can generally start on plain, full-fat, pasteurised yoghurt (regular or Greek) from around 6 months, once they're ready for solids. It's a good source of calcium and protein. Avoid yoghurts with added sugar or honey, and skip low-fat or fat-free options before age two.
What age can I give my baby chia seeds?
Chia seeds can be introduced once your baby starts solids, which is generally around 6 months. Blending them through a purée, like our mango chia pudding, gives a smoother texture.
When can my baby have honey?
Not before 12 months. Some of our toddler recipes include honey, so leave it out or pick a honey-free recipe for younger babies.
How long does homemade baby food last?
Check the storage time on each recipe. Most of our purées keep for around 2 to 3 days in the fridge. Freeze what you won't use in time and thaw it overnight in the fridge before serving.
Can I freeze purée in my Sinchies pouches?
Yes. Fill, seal and pop them in the freezer. Many of our recipes are designed for batch cooking, so you can make one big lot and freeze it in pouch-sized serves.
Can I feed my baby from the pouch with a spoon?
Yes. Twist a weaning spoon onto the spout and squeeze the purée straight onto the spoon. It's handy when you're out and about. Our Baby and Toddler Feeding Bundle includes weaning spoons.
Which pouch should I use for baby food?
For first solids, our silicone squeezy pouches are soft and easy to squeeze, and they go in the dishwasher. As your little one grows, our 150ml reusable pouches are great for yoghurt, purées and lunch boxes (hand wash only).
How do I clean my pouches?
Silicone squeezy pouches are dishwasher safe. 150ml reusable pouches are hand wash only, using warm soapy water and a cleaning brush. Rinse straight after use so food doesn't dry inside, and let them dry completely before refilling. See our care instructions for more.
