Oreogate is the viral Instagram story about a school mum named Michelle who asked other parents to stop packing Oreos in their children’s lunchboxes. Why? Because her daughter, Ava, wasn’t allowed Oreos and was coming home upset after seeing other children eating them.
What started as a request for “basic lunchbox rules” quickly turned into a dramatic parent group chat about Oreos, school lunches and whether one parent should be able to influence what another family packs.
Instagram creator @ashleighjamz shared the original Oreogate video, turning the messages into AI-generated songs. The series quickly attracted millions of views across Instagram and TikTok.
Questions have since been raised about whether the Oreogate messages were real or created as part of Ashleigh Jamz’s paid partnership with AI music platform Suno. The answer is - the chat is made up and Oreo has denied being involved. Real or not, the lunchbox debate definitely struck a nerve with parents!
