You know the after-school hunger. They've done three laps of the skate park and now they want everything in the pantry. This smoothie has oats and peanut butter, so it actually fills them up until dinner.
Makes: 2–3 pouches (150ml each) · Prep: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp rolled oats
- 250ml milk
- 1 ripe banana (frozen is great here)
- 1 tbsp peanut butter, or sunflower seed butter for a nut-free version
- A pinch of cinnamon
Method
- Soak the oats in the milk for 5 minutes. This softens them so the smoothie blends smooth.
- Add the banana, peanut butter and cinnamon.
- Blend until completely smooth. Add a splash more milk if it's too thick to squeeze.
- Pour into the pouches, squeeze out the air and seal.
Tips
- School days: most schools are nut-free, so use sunflower seed butter for anything going in the lunchbox. Keep the peanut butter version for home and the skate park.
- Storage: keep in the fridge and drink within 24 hours. Oats thicken as they sit, so shake well first.
- On the go: pack it in the sports bag with an ice brick for after training.
- Cleaning: rinse straight after use, then hand wash in warm soapy water with a bottle brush. Leave it open to dry.
