Food snack lunch box prep

Weekend food prep ideas for kids: My go-to snack prep list

If your kids seem to be hungry every five minutes, you're definitely not alone.

Between school lunch boxes, after-school snacks, sports, and weekend adventures, it can feel like you're constantly reaching for something to feed them.

That's why I love spending a little time on the weekend doing some food prep. Having homemade snacks ready to go saves time during the week, helps us spend less on packaged snacks, and makes lunch boxes so much easier.

Here's what's on my food prep list this weekend.

1. Granola bars

Homemade granola bars are always a winner in our house. They're easy to customise with oats, seeds, dried fruit or chocolate chips and are perfect for lunch boxes or an afternoon snack. Obsessed with Carly Fowlers at the moment.

2. High-protein choc chip muffins

These disappear almost as quickly as I bake them. They're great for busy mornings, lunch boxes or after-school hunger - another cracker from Carly Fowler. Recipe ➡️.

3. Protein balls

One of the easiest snacks to make ahead. Keep a batch in the fridge or freezer for those "I'm hungry!" moments.

4. Banana bread

A classic for a reason. Slice it up, freeze individual pieces and pop one straight into the lunch box in the morning. Message me if you want my recipe - the website doesn't exist anymore so I just have a screenshot!

5. ANZAC cookies

Perfect with a glass of milk after school and easy to make in big batches. I just use the thermomix recipe!

6. Healthy breakfast muffins

These are fantastic for rushed mornings and make a filling snack throughout the week. The recipe is from Goodie Goodie Lunch box.

And last but definitely not least … yoghurt pouches

Store-bought yoghurt pouches can quickly add up, especially if your kids love them as much as mine do.

Instead, I buy one large tub of yoghurt and fill our reusable food pouches for the week. It takes just a few minutes and saves us money every single shop.

Even better, I can mix in fruit, chia seeds or a little vanilla to create different flavours the kids actually enjoy.

Our reusable food pouches are:

  • Reusable again and again, helping reduce waste.

  • Easy to fill with yoghurt, smoothies, custard or homemade purees.

  • Freezer-friendly for meal prep.

  • Perfect for school lunch boxes, daycare and snacks on the go.

  • Available in fun prints that kids love.

A little weekend prep makes the weekdays so much easier.

Why I love weekend food prep

A couple of hours on the weekend means:

  • Spending less on convenience snacks.

  • Reducing single-use packaging.

  • Having healthy snacks ready whenever hungry kids appear.

  • Less stress during the school week.

  • Knowing exactly what's in the food my family is eating.

It doesn't have to be complicated. Even preparing just a few snacks ahead of time makes a huge difference.

I'd love your ideas!

I'm always looking for new snack inspiration.

What's one thing you make every weekend that your kids love?

Leave a comment or send us a message - I'd love to add it to my next food prep session.
