How to Clean Reusable Baby Food Pouches: A Step-by-Step Guide

Reusable baby food pouches are a fantastic way to save money, reduce waste, and provide healthy meals for your little ones. However, one common concern is ensuring these pouches are clean and safe to use again and again. Here's a step-by-step guide to washing your reusable baby food pouches effectively.

Step 1: Pre-Rinse
As soon as the pouches are empty, give them a quick rinse with hot water. This helps to remove any remaining food and prevents it from drying and sticking to the pouch. It also helps to avoid any unpleasant odours.

Step 2: Soak
Fill your sink with warm, soapy water. You can use a gentle dish soap that’s safe for cleaning baby products. Let the pouches soak for about 10-15 minutes. This will help to loosen any stubborn food residue and make cleaning easier.

Step 3: Scrub
Use a bottle brush or a soft-bristled brush to scrub the inside of the pouches. Pay extra attention to the corners and the spout, as food can sometimes get stuck in these areas. Sinchies brush comes with three different head attachments to clean all the hard to reach areas including the spout.

Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the pouches thoroughly with warm water to remove all soap and any remaining food residue. Make sure the water runs clear, especially through the spout, indicating that all soap has been rinsed away.

Step 5: Dry Completely
Allow the pouches to air dry completely before storing them. You can place them on a drying rack to ensure that all water drains out. Make sure they are fully dry to prevent any mould or mildew from forming. Some people recommend snap freezing the pouches.

Step 6: Sanitise (depending on babies age)
If you want to ensure an extra level of cleanliness, you can periodically sanitise the pouches. There are a few ways to do this:

  • UV Steriliser: Use a baby bottle steriliser if you have one.
  • Sterilising solution (Milton) or homemade Vinegar Solution: Soak the pouches in a mixture of water and white vinegar (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water) for about 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

By following these steps, you can keep your reusable baby food pouches clean and in great condition, ensuring they remain a convenient and eco-friendly option for your family. Happy feeding!
