What else do we need to know?
There are almost zero faults on these food jars. The most common sign of a genuine defect is a failed vacuum seal - if you hear water swishing around between the two walls, the vacuum has failed and we'll cover this under warranty. Please note that a dented jar won't be covered, as dropping it is most likely what caused the seam to fail.
Why isn't my food hot enough?
Most temperature issues come down to how the jar was used, not a fault with the jar itself. Here are the most common reasons:
- Heat is subjective. What feels piping hot to one person can feel lukewarm to another.
- Was the food heated all the way through? Microwaves often leave food steaming on the outside but cold in the middle. Always stir and check throughout.
- Was the jar preheated? A cold jar will draw heat energy away from your food the moment it goes in.
- Was the jar full? Air cools objects down fast. A jar with only a mini quiche or two chicken nuggets in it is never going to stay hot.
- Was the lid opened early? Every time the lid comes off — whether your little one opened it at recess to show their friends, or you gave them a peek before school — all that hot air is replaced with cold air.
- How long ago was it filled? Our food jar keeps food warm for up to 4 hours. If you filled it at 7am and lunch isn't until 1pm, that's 6 hours — beyond its rated time.
Top tips for best heating results:
- Preheat the jar by filling it with boiling water for 5 minutes before adding your food. Just rest the lid on top rather than sealing it, as steam will build up pressure inside.
- Heat the food hotter than you normally would. The hotter it goes in, the better. Don't hold back!
- Fill the jar as full as possible. A full jar has less air inside, which means better heat retention.
- Don't open it until you're ready to eat. Every peek lets the heat out!
Please note, a high quality insulated food jar does not heat food on the outside; it is designed to keep heat inside to keep food hot, or to keep heat out to keep food cold. The vacuum-insulated, double-walled design prevents heat from transferring, meaning the exterior remains safe to touch (cool or room temperature) while the food inside stays hot.
