Hot Cross Buns are a classic Easter treat, and with this simple recipe, you can whip up a fresh batch at home in no time! Made with just a handful of ingredients and no yeast, these buns are quick, delicious, and perfect for the whole family.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup self-raising flour, plus extra if needed
- 1 cup plain Greek yoghurt
- ¼ cup sultanas
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp allspice
- 4 tbsp plain flour
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 170°C.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, caster sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and sultanas.
- Add the Greek yoghurt and stir to combine. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface—it should be shaggy and slightly sticky. If needed, add more self-raising flour, one tablespoon at a time.
- Shape the dough into a rectangle and slice it into 6 equal buns.
- Place the buns onto a lined baking sheet.
- To make the traditional crosses, mix 4 tablespoons of plain flour with equal amounts of water to form a thick paste. Transfer the paste into a Sinchies reusable pouch and pipe it over the buns to create the crosses.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Enjoy warm, with a spread of butter or a drizzle of honey!
